blog #5 World's Fair

The World's Fair and David Gelenter book.
Author name David Gelenter
Source: Gelenter David.1939:The Lost World of the Fair.  New York Avon, 1995
In this book Gelenter argues that the World's Fair had different connotations for example it shows an America who had plenty of invention, and the style of living was an example for the world of how people should live, however all the luxuries and vast inventions, was not enough because he did make life easier. But he damage the quality of life in someway.
I choose this sources because it fit the information I need it for this essay.
This book support the ideas we have about the fair.

When we talk about the fair we can say that, The World's Fair was a time were, inventors and what common life did not  match at any time.   Robert Moses, wants buildings roads and much more that the traditional life was. That common life used to be beautiful Landscapes, and a lots of green and large empty spaces. Robert Moses sees this large dump as a career consequently he sees all this as new life.  He was a futuristic he saw things in a different way, but all he wants it was to construct a new life for us, a life with full highways, a park that brought millions of people, him and his futuristic views seems in many times a dream a dream which came true for him.  He did accomplish to do everything he had planned therefore we have buildings, and all the stuff he made for us to live the future. However, the inventions were done and  people life had change dramatically therefore people can get to places faster also beautiful buildings a tremendous park like "Flushing Meadow Park".  All this beautiful things we have today we owe to Robert Moses inventor of a colossal park highways. But do really need to kill oxygen and replace it with smoke.  Did we really need people with nervous break down because they are stock in a highway. In addition "Gelenter 103" the author says how changed is now the city, today we may see your built under a highway not only the noise pollution is not healthy for us and he also said how about the screechy noise of the ambulance in the middle of the night. Having so many people living in one place is not only dangerous it is not good for children to grow up and because the demand of employees is a lot. Employer hire people and pay them nothing.
The World's have many good things invention things that make our life easier but do we really need to do our life easier and replace it with building packed of people that provably does not ecan even find a job. Do we really need a company like McDonald who exploit immigrants and lower class. That is something that it was not putted into consideration

On this historical photo, I learned that people used to dressed to go out to the fair, telling us that times were very different as today. Today when people goes to park they do no  used this kind of clothing.
We may appreciate in this picture that the way building were built was incredible, in order to that they need a lot of imagination, tools, education, but it was done in times that the second world war was taken place. In just months that the war was there putting the economy behind.   These were time of expending money, progressing but  more than everything it was about showing off to other countries. We may see that other countries were invited, however I do not think it was to see how other countries were doing.   It was to show them how we were doing and these countries were the witnesses of how well the United States had improve. What it was appealing to me were the pictures.  Pictures says a lot of everything, there is no way that the pictures could be misleading or false, these pictures says exactly was it was going on these time therefore they are a reliable source. The problem about the past it is that the more you talk about the more it get distorted making the real thing look suspicious because we can not warranty if was said was true or not.
About David Gelenter's  his idea of trying to revive the past it is perfect we will understand and many details will come out we see a movie or a video thanks to technology, therefore we might understand it well enough to have an idea of what was going on in the past but still is not a reliable source it is helpful but not good enough to rely on it.  Technology in many times can be interesting and we may appreciate a lot but technology is not the last word when we talk about history.  A youtube video can tell us how people look like building look like but can not talk about feeling how the people felt in that moment. But people who lived those moment do can say how they felt , with much more details that a vide
